Point-set topology: open and closed sets, neighbourhood, interior, boundary, closure, dense subsets, subspaces, sequences, limits of sequences, continuity, homeomorphisms, product topology. Metric spaces, normed vector spaces, completeness. Compactness and connectedness. Uniform continuity of functions. Simple and uniform convergence of sequences of functions. Tychonoff’s theorem, compact and connected spaces. Contractions. Fixed-point theorems. Convexity. Countability and separation axioms.
Prerequisite: Math 281 or consent of the instructor.
